If you could study with any artist or scientist, who would you choose and why?
I would have to chose to study with Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson; he is a rare combination of brilliance and humanity. Making it his life's mission to democratize the world of science, sharing the secrets once kept by only the intellectually elite, he continues Dr. Carl Sagan's initiative to educate lay people without being condescending or patronizing. Through our social and scientific studies we can emphasize the fact that we are not just spectators of the universe, the universe is not other, we are one with it, we are star stuff, and as Dr. Sagan said, "...we are a way for the cosmos to know itself."
What's your favorite thing about Louisiana Art & Science Museum?
The immersive, multifaceted take on whole-mind learning and community engagement is my favorite part of the Art & Science Museum. The fact that I can see a portrait exhibition featuring a sketch made by one of the great artists of all time, then go to a station adjacent to that and maybe make my own masterpiece, is fulfilling. Then, too, I could watch a film about butterflies and understand their movement; take a class about butterflies; see many brilliant examples of butterfly specimens; and then see a local, contemporary artist's photographic interpretation of those same samples. For me, this only adds to the richness of the experience.
