Planetarium Grand Reopening Film Festival
Join us for a festival of some of your favorite planetarium shows while experiencing our new state-of-the-art 4k projection system.
This summer, the Art & Science Museum’s planetarium theater (one of the largest in the Southeastern United States, with 171 seats and a 60-foot dome screen) underwent a series of technical upgrades. Thanks to the installation of this new technology, including a latest generation 4K digital video projection system and a 15,000-watt digital surround sound system, the result is an even more immersive experience. Not only is the sound completely crisp, but the colors are richer, the blacks are blacker, and the stars shine brighter than ever.
In celebration of these additions, the public is invited on Labor Day weekend to experience some of the museum’s most popular shows in a new light. A different show will play each hour. Fly with butterflies, soar through our national parks, be enchanted by our local nighttime sky, and so much more. The planetarium’s immersive environment is unlike any other theater in our area.

Shows begin on the hour, and there is no admission once the doors are closed. Seating is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Children under 3 may attend the 10 AM and 4 PM shows on Saturdays and 1 PM and 4 PM shows on Sundays; all other shows are for ages 3 and up.
