Shadows and Light: Teachers of Grades 4–8

Do you ever feel in the dark when trying to teach your students about eclipses, lunar phases, the seasons, Earth’s orbit, and other astronomy-related topics? Then join us for this exciting educators’ workshop. A live demonstration in the planetarium will enhance visual understanding, and hands-on activities will provide excellent reinforcement of LEAP skills and concepts. We promise to make a challenging subject simple, teacher-friendly, and fun!

Digital Universe: Teachers of Grades 6–12
Saturday, February 7, 2009, 9:00–11:00 AM

Via the world’s most extensive, accurate three-dimensional database of the universe, you will take a virtual tour beginning with the planets of our solar system and ending at the edge of the known observable universe. Emphasis will be upon cosmological hierarchy—solar system, galactic structure, distances, the cosmic microwave background, and the Milky Way Galaxy. Included are a live planetarium presentation and classroom-friendly activities that can be easily adapted for your students.
