Save your money for other great memories while still enjoying the full experience of LASM!
This Free First Sunday is graciously sponsored by BASF.
Since 2011, BASF and LASM have “created chemistry” together by offering the BASF’s Kids’ Lab workshops to students and weekend public visitors. BASF funds this award-winning, global program to foster scientific literacy by encouraging children to explore the relevant connections between chemistry and the world around them.
Free First Sunday visitors can also enjoy the museum’s state-of-the-art Interactive Periodic Table, a focal point of the newly renovated STEAM Station, generously provided by BASF.
On April 6, the BASF team will share information about their site history project, which uncovered the unmarked burial ground of the enslaved people of Linwood Plantation, and the discovery of the Minor family (owners of Linwood Plantation) cemetery being located on a 1,000 – 2,000-year-old Indian Mound. The multi-year project included the identification of over 300 names of those enslaved at the site, the preservation of the cemetery and burial grounds, the construction of a memorial to honor the memory of the enslaved and the development of an educational outreach program.
LSU Engineering Development Ambassadors will also be on-site to engage attendees with hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities. An additional highlight of the day will be a live performance by Of Moving Colors, who will be performing in the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium prior to the 3 PM showing of Cosmic Colors. Included with discounted planetarium admission, visitors can enjoy this one-of-a-kind performance under the dome of the planetarium, combining dance, music, and immersive visuals to create an unforgettable experience.
Free First Sunday is an opportunity for the community to connect with art, science, and history in an exciting and accessible way, with something for everyone to experience and enjoy.
