CALL TO ARTISTS

Capitol City Contemporary/5: Water

September 19, 2020 – March 2021

The Louisiana Art & Science Museum is proud to honor artists who are contributing to the vitality of Louisiana’s current art scene. Capitol City Contemporary (CCC) is an invitation-based art exhibition for Louisiana artists who are currently living in the state. We invite artists of all mediums to submit 5-10 images of artwork to be considered for this exhibition. 12 artists will be selected to be featured in Capitol City Contemporary. Each year, CCC focuses on a specific theme, ranging from a style of art, a medium, or a celebrated aspect of our local culture. The fifth installment of CCC will explore the theme of water.

Water is an essential ingredient for human life, as well as for many other life forms.  this transparent liquid is experienced in different phases ranging from a gaseous vapor to snow and solid ice. Covering 71% of the Earth’s surface, water plays an important role not only in ecology and the world economy but also in culture; artists have always been fascinated by the subject of water.

Capitol City Contemporary raises community awareness of the artistic talent and creative energy in Louisiana. The artworks will be chosen following an open call to artists, resulting in a selection that exemplifies the myriad ways artists present and interpret water. All media forms will be considered for the invitation.
