Hours & Admissions

ATTENTION: To prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have reopened with the restricted hours below. Our hands-on children's galleries Discovery Depot Gallery & Science Station are closed at this time; we are planning to reopen them in the coming months.

1 PM - 4 PM*

The first 30 people who arrive at the Museum each day can park in the employee lot at the north end of our building, opposite the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium. The gate will be up and visitors can walk around to the front door of the Museum located on River Road.

*On Saturdays and Sundays, the last entry of the day will be admitted at 4 PM, which is when the last Irene W. Pennington Planetarium show of the day begins. 

**Sunday admission includes access to unlimited Irene W. Pennington Planetarium shows, presenter-led Sunday Stargazing in the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium at 2 PM and 4 PM (preceding astronomy-themed planetarium shows), and access to the Solar System Gallery and Universe Gallery. 

The Museum is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Mardi Gras, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Admission*:

Unlimited Irene W. Pennington Planetarium shows are included with admission.

Admission may be purchased at the door.

Active duty military, first responders,  veterans, and their families receive free admission as part of the Blue Star Museums Program, sponsored by VFIS Special Risk Insurance of Louisiana/Mississippi.

Group Tours:

Small, in-person groups tours are now permissible with approval from the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal. Groups of up to 15 (larger groups can be divided into smaller sub-groups) can now book an Irene W. Pennington Planetarium show plus  tours of two galleries (Solar System Gallery, Ancient Egypt Gallery, Main Art Galleries). Discounted rate of $10 per person (up to 15), plus one free educator. Safety Information/Mask Guidelines:

Masks are no longer required for visitors who have been fully vaccinated.
