Blueprints of Culture: Architecture and Design That Shapes Louisiana
On View April 25, 2026 Through April 1, 2027
Located in the STEAM Gallery
Architecture and design shape every creative discipline
More than floor plans and well-designed buildings, the two represent the philosophy of how civilization is established. They provide a foundation upon which culture resides and how history is retold. These Louisiana student artists examine architecture and design as a shared creative language. A language that unites all artistic fields through vision, problem-solving, and structure. As you view the artworks, consider how architecture and design shape daily life by informing mood, guiding paths, and influencing the fabric of communities.
For over three centuries, Louisiana’s landscape has given rise to some of the nation’s most compelling architectural and design legacies, such as A. Hays Town, Henry Howard, Thomas Sully, and Joseph Chateau, just to name a few. Blending diverse heritages, sometimes out of necessity, these foundations continue to inform present-day design.
Today, creatives use those foundational tools to solve real-world problems, develop self-sufficient ecosystems, and shape experiences we have yet to imagine. We hope you will see these student artists not just as creative individuals, but as designers of ideas that will preserve and maintain our culture. Their creativity has structure. Their imagination has purpose. And their art has the power to continuously define the future of Louisiana.
